Gayatri Chavan

BIG congratulations to Gayatri Chavan who is our LOLA employee of the month for January!

Gayatri was one of LOLA’s best catering staff. Being a part of LOLA Elite Team, she was also one of our most dedicated staff members in the past two years. Excellent hospitality skills and reliability have made her become LOLA’s ambassador and then the supervisor.

Gayatri worked at 390 (WOAH!) events for LOLA! These included VIP events, livery dinners, racecourses, store openings and many more. She worked at both small private parties and large corporate events.

Anywhere she went, the next day we received an amazing feedback from the clients impressed with her work.

We’re all sad to see Gayatri go and we’re very grateful for the great job she did for LOLA. All the best of luck Gayatri! You’ll be very missed.

Also special mention to Ben Morrison who has been nominated as the ’LOLA Star’ this month and as a result we’re happy to offer a pay increase.

LOLA at Banqueting House - Whitehall

Check out the pictures we took on Tuesday at Banqueting House, Whitehall. The event staff from LOLA served the dinner for the British Toy and Hobby Association company. Take a look at our bar and catering staff at work, they’ve just finished setting up the tables… The venue looked beautiful. In the Grand Hall you’ll spot the stunning ceilings painted by Sir Peter Paul Rubens. In fact, the Banqueting House is the only remaining building of Whitehall Palace destroyed by fire in 1698. The beautiful masterpiece of classical architecture, the design and food by Create and of course service from LOLA Staffing make the events there exceptional.

Burns' Night Extravaganza at Vinopolis

Here are a few pictures of the hospitality staff from LOLA working on the bar and serving guests at last night’s Burns’ Night Extravaganza at Vinopolis.

Carolina and Piran from LOLA were also there to celebrate the life of Scottish poet Robert Burns. Burns’ Night in the Great Halls had everything that a traditional Burns’ Supper required, including haggis (traditional Scottish dish), Scotch Whisky and the recitation of Burns' poetry.

Guests were welcomed by a piper at the entrance. Then the traditional Selkirk Grace was said before LOLA event staff served the starter (Cock-a-Leekie soup) along with one of many 16 year old Scotch Whiskies. The piper played bagpipes and everyone stood and clapped as the chef brought in a haggis on a large dish. Address to the Haggis was recited and then our waiters served the main course. Carolina and Piran had haggis for the first time and they loved it! However Piran’s favourite was the dessert – clootie dumplings which were paired with a fine Glenfiddich 14 year old Whisky.

After coffee and another toast, this time with a Talisker Whisky, guests moved onto the dance floor as Ceilidh Music played. Burns’ Night at the Great Hall was very traditional to the very end as everyone sang Auld Lang Syne.

We had a blast last night thanks to the amazing hospitality of Vinopolis! We’d also like to thank our LOLA staff who did a fantastic job!

Thank you to all you amazing LOLA’s that came out and joined us for our regular belated Christmas party in January.

It’s an opportunity for us in the office team to catch up with the many faces of the company that do such a fantastic job day in day out. We often don’t get the chance to say thank you – so a BIG thank you. 2011 was a great year for the company and we’d be nowhere without you (obviously!).

I hope everyone enjoyed the night and special mention to our ‘Internal Affairs’ division for picking the venue, stressing about the organisation and ultimately arranging what I think was the best staff party yet.

Also a ‘shout out’ to Hot Frosty for his impromptu rap set. Brilliant! I wasn’t surprised our office team knew all the lyrics (we play Hot Frosty on a daily basis!) but it seemed we were not the only Hot Frosty fans in the house. Everyone knew the lyrics!

On behalf of Dean, Kate, Carolina, Piran, Diana, Paula, John-Michael, Andreea, Eve, Madre, Steph and myself a very late Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and we hope you have a successful and a fun year in 2012.

The LOLA Awards

I write this post feeling very rusty off the back of two very large nights of LOLA partying. First of all…….Our Sexy Suppers Contest………

We rolled out the red carpet and donned our tuxes and gowns for the eagerly awaited LOLA 2012 Awards hosted by Diana and what a night! The office was a flurry of activity and make up in the lead up and the result was some gorgeous and glamorous looking ladies. And the men…………well we were there too.

Canapes were some delightful caviar, salmon and avocado blinis served up by the very patient and helpful Eme. Main course was soy-glazed salmon with spicy rice and roast peppers and finally a trio of desserts – white chocolate cheesecake, lemon posset and chocolate dipped strawberries. All washed down with pink champagne with edible gold flakes. Yum!!

And then the big awards! Congratulations to the winners as follows:

Woman of the Year – Paula Juskiewicz

Man of the Year – Piran Miller

Poshest Person Alive – Madre Visser

Office Drama Queen – Carolina Franca

Favourite Internal Affairs Moment – Madre Visser for “Hello Facebook”

Greediest Beast – Diana Sanni

I did lodge an appeal for a re-count on the Man of the Year vote but unfortunately it was confirmed I had secured last place by a considerable margin. Hence, there will be no pay rises this year for anyone.

Well done to Diana and a big thank you to Eme (and partly to John) for a wonderful night of food, awards and fun.

And the night after………the LOLA Christmas in January party………in my next post.

Happy Birthday Madre!

Take a look at the few shots of our lovely intern Madre celebrating her 21^st Birthday with us yesterday! Madre seemed to enjoy our little surprise, she laughed when she saw the pink balloons, she laughed when cutting the chocolate cake.. to then burst into tears of happiness when she saw the ‘I <3 Harry Potter’ t-shirt we got her… Well it was all very emotional for our little (yet grown up) Madre we must say! We love you Madge! All the best!

Last week we popped by to Plaisterers’ Hall to see how our lovely LOLA team is doing. We didn’t stay long, but we managed to take some photos of LOLA staff setting up for the Master and Clerks VIP Livery Dinner. Our waiting team made sure that the venue looked impeccable before the guests arrived. They were setting up the tables and getting ready to greet the guests with big smiles on their faces! Result? Phillip Kelly-Ayo

BIG congratulations to Phillip Kelly-Ayo who is our LOLA employee of the month for December!

Friends of Phillip who had the pleasure to work with him at many events describe Phillip as ‘just great, probably the most helpful LOLA staff member.’

Phillip is one of LOLA’s fantastic catering staff. Reiss, Wembley Stadium and Claridge’s Hotel are just a few organisations that have benefitted from Phillip’s great service. He’s also worked at many corporate parties, weddings, concerts and race courses.

The girls here at LOLA office say: ‘Phillip has been with us for 2 years and has been quietly excellent throughout. He always looks impeccable, arrives on time with a great attitude and is consistently efficient at work. He is a big hit with the office team, his onsite colleagues and our major clients due to his kind manner and peaceful nature. We love him!’

Also special mention to Nathan Ellis and Andreia Cernescu who have been nominated as the ’LOLA Stars’ this month and as a result we’re happy to offer a pay increase.

The Office Christmas Tree

This year we got in nice and early to buy our office Christmas tree. Duncan and Piran lugged it all the way back for us. It looked so beautiful to begin with. Perfect shape, lovely colour, strong base. We were so happy…….

Within a few days we noticed he was looking a bit sickly. A little grey. By the next morning he was falling apart. Rapidly.

Our tree seemed to have a mysterious illness; sort of like tree leprosy. The more we tried to brighten him, the more he died. Now two weeks later our Office Christmas Tree is on life support. He has lost all of his weight (needles) and has a limp. We fear he won’t survive the winter. We’ve tried water, baubles, happy thoughts, kicking him – nothing’s worked.

Essex Road Christmas Tree Man – you sold us a crappy, leper tree for £45.00. But for some reason we love him J

Merry Christmas to all of our Islington neighbours who probably also have terminal trees.

Santa releases Elf for Christmas Supper

Last night the LOLA office was filled with Christmas cheer as Santa released one of his elves from a night shift to cook us a wonderful Christmas dinner in the 3^rd round of our dining contest.

A crackling fire (thanks You Tube), fairy lights and holly painted the perfect picture for a cosy start to the dinner. Ably assisted by her helper, our little LOLA Elf (we’ll call her Frosty….) served up a delicious bruschetta starter followed by a perfectly presented chicken and mushroom risotto with a sprinkling of parmesan.

It was then time for some Secret Santa - and in the absence of the man himself Frosty the Elf filled in and handed out some fabulous pressies most of which came within the £5 budget. For the second year running, one particular Secret Santa even managed to come in WELL under budget. Thanks Secret Scrooge.

Special mention to the home baked cookies, the Pounland make up set and the ‘Happy Horse.’

Following a dessert of meringue, fruit and cream, Frosty’s helper finally got to let her hair down with her new karaoke machine. The rendition of ‘Say You’ll be There’ was moving.

Eventually the lights came on and we all left the building while some old man in an Anorak sang Fleetwood Mac to himself.

A worthy 3^rd round contender for the prize. All eyes are now on round 4 where the competition gets its first look at the favourite……….

Anthony Ndow

BIG congratulations to Anthony Ndow who is our LOLA employee of the month for November.

Anthony has worked for LOLA for 7 months now and has done over 120 shifts for us so far! He is one of the favourite staff members for many of our clients. He has worked at plenty of different events and the variety of venues including hotels, museums, and racecourses. He has just recently completed a very successful Christmas run.

He has been invaluable at one of main Christmas venues – The Tower of London where he was a superstar on the beast shifts of over 17 hours!!! Not only a whizz in the floor he is now bar man of choice.

Anthony’s hard work and willingness have made him our November stand out star and we cannot thank him enough.

LOLA senior team describe Anthony as ‘always great to work with’ and ‘top performer every shift’. He is ‘one of everyone’s favourite… Doesn’t matter how tough the job is, doesn’t matter how tired he is, he always does everything he is asked to!’ Well done Anthony!

Also special mention to Rosie Chatwin who has been nominated as a ’LOLA Star’ this month and as a result we’re happy to offer a pay increase.

Arabian Nights - Round 2

1 month of decision making, 2 weeks of preparation, 3 days of sourcing ingredients, a weekend for mise en place, late for work a couple of times, half a days set up……..and finally……

John Michael gives us Arabian nights! And it was well worth the wait!

We entered the candlelit Bedouin to be greeted by Abu (aka Piran) the helper boy, offering a selection of delicious cocktails known as the LOLA Oasis and made with a special ingredient of Turkish vodka (an aniseed infused vodka). In the background we had desert imagery and JMR’s favourite soundtrack Arabesque creating the Persian vibe.

With guests that included Mustafa, Princess Jasmine, a belly dancer and the Ghost of Gaddafi it was sure to be a fancy affair.

The light selection of home made hummus, freshly marinated olives and flat bread to begin with was the perfect opener. That was followed by a delectable Moroccan chicken served with apricot cous cous. Rose wines, beer and a few more rounds of LOLA Oasis washed down the main before we topped it off with some Turkish delight.

Abu had a busy night with the Arabian ladies making good use of the servant bell and we all learnt more than we bargained for about our little belly dancer!

All in all a magnificent effort from JMR who has set the bar very high for Round 3.

Benjamin Collard

BIG congratulations to Benjamin Collard who is our LOLA employee of the month for October. One of LOLA’s finest chefs, Ben gathered a wide range of culinary experience whilst working in France, Spain, Morocco and Mali. After eighteen months of independent overland travel on motorbike, from West Yorkshire through Western Europe, North Africa to Ivory Coast, Benjamin joined LOLA in the beginning of 2011. Since then he has worked at various types of events including barbeques, weddings and big corporate parties. He is also one of our regulars at Wembley Stadium. All of the LOLA clients love him! Ben does a great job both at the small private parties and the big events. Ben’s hard work and dedication make him a great asset for LOLA. In September he worked a record long shift of 23.5 hours! Woah! Well done Ben!

Also special mention to Sergio Velasquez who has been nominated as a ’LOLA Star’ this month and as a result we’re happy to offer a pay increase.

LOLA Dinner Winners - Round 1 - Poland

Round 1 – Dinner Winners – Paula (ably assisted by Madre) served up a delightful Polish feast of Pierogi, Krokiety, Golabki (pigeons?) and baby potatoes for our inaugural cooking contest.

Washed down with Polish beer and of the smoothest Vodka on earth it was a successful start to what is hotting up as a tight competition.

Special points for the tealights in the shape and colour of the Polish flag and the educational video (did you know Copernicus was Polish?). Lost points for the table cloth you set on fire.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!

A very happy Halloween to all of our wonderful and very sporting clients who we visited for Halloween yesterday.

As we dressed our Halloween Hit Squad we did wonder – ‘Will they be arrested? Will people think they are being robbed? What if some big warehouse manager clobbers one of the girls as she runs out?’

Despite limited vision through their Morph Suits, the squad did an amazing job surprising some terrified receptionists and event managers. Along the way they even managed to distribute a load of treats and a few witches’ fingers.

Thankfully our Awesome Foursome made it back to HQ safely. Our liability insurance was intact and we had a few great stories of drive-by Halloween hits to share. Big thanks to Jack, Ivan and the two Rachels for being our brave little Halloween Guinea Pigs!

LOLA Staffing at the M Kitchen pop-up restaurant

Morrisons has opened an unbranded central London pop-up kitchen restaurant to promote its ready meals. The Kitchen was open for 4 days (10^th-13^th October) in Great Marlborough Street as a part of London Restaurant Week. The restaurant was branded as ‘The Kitchen’ and the guests were not told that it was a Morrisons brand until after the event, when the guests found out that the meals they just had were all recipes from Morrisons' new M Kitchen ready meals range, which includes: a Bistro range, chef-created meals, Pan Asian, takeaway, sharing, everyday meals and fresh ideas. This way Morrisons wanted to win over the public, and to change their perception of ready meals. We bet they did as M Kitchen has the top culinary collaborations with the UK’s best chefs: Atul Kochtar, Aldo Zilli, Pierre Koffman, Nigel Haworth and Bryn Williams. Each of them created an exclusive recipe for M Kitchen in order to bring the restaurant quality experience to the customers’ houses. The hospitality staff from LOLA Events was serving the guests, a majority of which were food critics and journalists and a few lucky members of the public. The delicious 4 course meal was accompanied by the selection of vintage wines recommended by the sommelier. The successful concept of the M Kitchen pop-up restaurants will now hopefully go nationwide to promote their re-branded range of ready meals.

LOLA Events supplied their fantastic staff to one of the most exciting product launch parties of 2011! The party headlined by Will.i.am was held on 6^th October in the famous Roundhouse in Camden to celebrate the launch of HTC with Beats Audio - licensed from Dr. Dre.

The event was all about the style and sound. There was an outstanding list of talented DJs performing such as: Fedde Le Grand, Dirty South, Martin Solveig and Zedd.

Lady Gaga, Cheryl Cole and of course Dr. Dre were among the celebrities who turned up to dance the night away. LOLA promo girls, hospitality staff and cloakroom attendants were there to make sure that over 1000 guests could enjoy the party to the full!

Ivan Berger

BIG congratulations to Ivan Berger who is our LOLA employee of the month for September!

Friends of Ivan who had the pleasure to work with him at many events describe him as a ‘universally loved’ and ‘highly entertaining’ person that cannot spend a second in silence. One of his LOLA friends said: ‘I often laugh. I can only take him in small portions, otherwise it gets too much! ;) ’

Ivan has been working for LOLA for over a year now and is a great asset to the company, getting an outstanding feedback from both the private clients and corporate event organisers. He is one of LOLA’s fantastic catering staff and promotional staff. Samsung, Mulberry, Panasonic, Gap and VEVO are just a few organisations that have benefitted from Ivan’s great service. Seasonal staffing surge
As Christmas approaches, demand for seasonal staff has surged, according to procurer of temporary agency labour de Poel.
The research shows retailers have already started preparations for the Christmas rush with a 39% increase in the use of temporary staff in September, compared to the same month last year.
The findings also show that the business services (13.53%) and manufacturing (8.52%) sectors increased their reliance of temporary agency labour, whereas decreases emerged in care (-24.42%), facilities (-3.61%), logistics (-4.26%) and waste management (-3.03%) sectors.
Matthew Sanders, chief executive of de Poel, says: “For most retailers the final four months of the year are all about Christmas preparations, which is reflected in the September figures. Last month, also saw many end of season sales with a lot of high street retailers trying to clear space and make way for Christmas stock. Both of these elements will have had a profound effect on the use of temporary agency labour in this sector.”

A wide range of speakers, delegates and exhibitors were trying to find a solution to the problem with management of water and wastewater at the 5^th European Water & Wastewater Management Conference & Exhibition. The event was held at The Barbican Centre, in the heart of the City of London on 26th and 27th September.

For the duration of the 2 days conference LOLA promo girls spoke with delegates and distributed relevant literature. The promotional staff were expected to become familiar with the Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water and its conditions before the event. Sounds serious? Well it was, but our promo girls were more than happy to oblige and according to the client’s feedback they were amazing! Check it out yourself:

The trophy has been awarded every year since 1946 to the man of the match in Rugby Leagues Challenge Cup Final. This year it took place on 7^th September in the luxurious 5 star Lowry Hotel in Manchester.

LOLA promo girls were there, very excited to work at this prestigious gala. At the beginning of the event Helen and Alex were meeting and greeting the guests – including the greatest legends of the rugby league! VEVO is an exciting partnership with Universal Music Group (UMG), Sony Music Entertainment (SME), and the Abu Dhabi Media Company with offices in New York, London, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, and San Francisco.

Our promotional staff were asked to assist at the VEVO summer party and of course we were very happy to oblige. The team worked as hosts and hostesses and provided excellent service including giving technical support for the VEVO app that the guests were trialling.

The VEVO Summer Party 2011 took place at Altitude 360 at Millbank Tower on Wednesday 7^th September. It was a corporate music event with a host of celebrities and key media in attendance. Celebrities on the red carpet included: Pixie Lott, Talay Riley, Eliza Doolittle, Loick Essien & Chantelle from Six D, Matt Cardle, Idris Elba, Chipmunk, Emeli Sandé and The World Famous Dixon Brothers. Jessie J was also a hit and took the opportunity to sing her brand new single “Domino” live for the very first time.

Our LOLA promo girls looked stunning in their red dresses from American Apparel and we hear that our promo guys, wearing the red t-shirts, made a great impression on the ladies too! LOLA promotions models were not only the hosts and hostesses for the night, but they supported and advised the guests on a number of products throughout the evening. Primarily our promotional staff worked in the ‘App World’ where they were helping the guests to use the VEVO application on iPads and iPhones.

We are very proud to announce that our Employee of the Month of August is our intern-turned-Office Manager Paula Juskiewicz.

Paula started as a Core Team member being a part of both LOLA catering staff and promotional staff and jumped at the opportunity to do our Summer 2011 Internship. After doing a great job for 3 months we just couldn’t let her go!

She is now the first point of contact between the LOLA office and the LOLA team and has been absolutely brilliant at handling client enquires and quotes. Plus, she already has a big Wembley signing in session under her belt!

Sam Odotei

A BIG congratulations to Samantha Odotei who is our LOLA employee of the month for June.

Sam has just recently completed a very successful Summer run as an Ambassador where she was keeping an eye on some of our newer staff at our key venues.

This year Sam has worked across a huge variety of roles from providing Silver Service for one of the city’s premier law firms to VIP Livery Hall dinners across some of the Livery Halls we work in such as Plaisterers Hall.

Saracens Rugby Club, Zurich, The Jamaican High Commission and KPMG are just a few organisations that have benefitted from Sam’s great service.

Andres Echeverri

A BIG congratulations to Andres Echeverri who is our LOLA employee of the month for May.

Andres has been a long serving member of the LOLA team for some time now and has recently started to take on responsibilities as a Supervisor.

Currently Andres is the main man directing the team behind the bars at one of our biggest Summer projects – The Honourable Artillery Club. This involves managing up to a team of 20 staff on events that range anywhere from 300-1200 guests.

So far we’ve heard nothing but praise from our clients and staff about the job Andres has been doing onsite.

Kids Company Superheroes Fun Run

Last Sunday’s Kids Company Fun Run was a chance for the LOLA team to both help a worthy cause and honour some true superheroes.

While most runners on the 5km course went for Superman, Batman and Spiderman; Duncan and Kate decided on The Hoff & Pammy. The justification? They wear less clothes, have more muscles and save more lives than your average superhero.

Some other notable mentions we saw on the day were Gingerbread Man, Buzz Lightyear (and mini Buzz) and Wolfman.

Hoff and Pammy finished credibly somewhere in the middle of the pack, ahead of a slightly chubby Wolverine and behind and elderly Wonder woman.

It was a lovely day and a pleasant Sunday run through Regent’s Park for a great charity. Well done guys.

Dr. Dre’s L.A. office called on the LOLA promotional team last week to help them make an international delivery. LOLA’s lovely new promo girl Grace got the call up as they came to Manchester to launch Dre’s new Beats headphones at the Manchester United training ground.

Sets were personalised for the full Manchester United team, and presented by Grace to each individual player in between their very busy training schedule. A lot of fun was had by all, though we’re not sure who was the bigger hit, Grace or the headphones…

LOLA Team Supporting our charity - Kids Company

Some of the LOLA team escaped the office for the day and joined the gang from Kids Company at Falconbrook Primary School in Clapham for a day of cooking with the kids.

The kids were a very happy, very fun band of sixth graders who revelled in the attention from the LOLA ‘so-called cooking experts. We made omlettes, cous-cous and smoothies. Most of the food went down very well and anything green on the plate went on the floor or in the bin! It seems we still have a way to go to encourage healthy eating.

Nevertheless, it was a fabulous day and a very worthwhile cause. Anyone reading this blog we urge you to get behind Kids Company, a great charity doing some wonderful work for many children across the country.

The Only Way is Essex - Vajazzle launch

Some of our sexy LOLA promotional staffing ladies had the pleasure of being ‘Vajazzled up’ for the launch of a TOWIE collaboration with Vajazzle Me (www.vajazzle.me.uk) last night.

One of the show's stars Mark Wright seemed more than happy to promote the product as he posed with a group of our gorgeous promo girls at the launch in London yesterday.

Grinning as he pointed to the diamante embellishment on our promotional staff member Elizabeth Eastman's stomach, Mark lived up to his player reputation at the event, held at Signor Sassi Italian restaurant in Knightsbridge.

The popularity of the vajazzle, where diamantes are placed delicately on a woman's nether regions, has increased massively and of course we here at LOLA were only happy to be on hand to help.

Re-launch of St Pancras Hotel

The team at LOLA have been very excited to have been involved with the re-launch of the St Pancras Hotel under the new Renaissance name.

The hotel, developed by Manhattan Loft Corporation, opened 138 years, to the day, since the original hotel’s grand opening in 1873. We have been involved with all the staffing teams for the VIP events in the lead up and we even featured last night on BBC with the Royal Academy of Arts event being televised.

The £150m renovation of the 245‐room hotel consists of the historic St Pancras Chambers that will house 38 Victorian bedroom suites, and Barlow House, the newly created 120,000 sq ft extension that will feature original artwork and contemporary design.

The hotel will also house a 350 capacity ballroom, a private club, a barber’s shop and luxury spa, to include a swimming pool and 7 treatment rooms.

Manhattan Loft Corporation won the competition for the restoration of Sir George Gilbert Scott’s Grade I listed hotel in 2002.

Following a fantastic night at the Official Usher OMG Tour our LOLA Promotional Staff provided their services as hostesses at the After Show Party at the IndigO2.

Very excited to be spending the evening with Usher at the Intimate LIVE music arena the IndigO2 the promotional staff looked super hot in their Remi Martini sponsored outfits.

Guests were treated to music by Swerve, Tommy Smalls and Ironic and of course some smooth talking by the man himself, who is ‘filling Michael Jackson’s shoes’ (according to his performance on the night). We heard he’s a pretty damn good dancer so I guess we can’t argue with him!

LOLA takes off with Virgin Atlantic

HOSPITALITY STAFF FOR THE VIRGIN ATLANTIC CLUBHOUSE

A lucky team of LOLA Event Staff have had the pleasure of working with Virgin Atlantic at their award winning VIP Club House at Heathrow Airport.

Virgin approached LOLA with a very clear brief on the types of event staff they required. Crucial to the brief was that the staff matched the Virgin vision and the Virgin brand. Although, of course we all knew about the Virgin brand, we were blown away by the passion and commitment their team had to protecting the incredible product and service they provided. They hadn’t been voted World’s best Club House so many times for nothing!

We though we’d better impress.

We sent our finest 30 hospitality staff for selection. Ultimately the top 12 were chosen. These guys and gals had to have a mix of promotional staffing ability, hospitality experience and the ability to act as hosts and hostesses for Virgin’s many high profile and celebrity clients.

It has been a lot of fun so far and one of our promotional staff was even offered a role in a full time position with Virgin (which of course we were thrilled to support).

The Club House might be described as a ‘big boy’s playground. Constant fun, great service and hence, LOLA is looking forward to supplying our event staffing team there for many months to come.

The LOLA promotions team has returned to its childhood and had a blast helping out at the Toy Fair.

Toy Fair is the only dedicated toy, game and hobby exhibition in the UK. The show is celebrating its 58^th anniversary in 2011 from 25th-27th January, following its return to Olympia's Grand Hall in 2010.

Exhibitors - ranging from the large internationals to the new start up companies have been once again showcasing thousands of brand new toys, games and hobbies to the UK's largest gathering of toy industry professionals. And the LOLA promotional staff have been on hand to help promote the coolest new toys around.

Toy Fair provides visitors with a real overview and insight into a fun, innovative and exciting industry, as well as providing a great networking opportunity and the chance to touch, feel and experiment with the products of the future.

Imagine you are a comedy referee giving out subtle alcohol advice before, during and after a local Dagenham FC match. Fun and cheeky but not overzealous, remember DON’T get in their faces, or annoy the supporters, maybe just some soft advice…..

This was a fun, slightly frightening task the LOLA Promotional Staff were contracted to do at last week’s big match.

The general message is that we understand that football fans enjoy a drink or two with the football, but try to drink in moderation, or do simple things to keep healthy, like having a night off the booze, missing a round or drinking some water (read the booklet for info).

Seems sensible, right? Good work LOLA lads you survived despite the uniform!

Tron Legacy after Party at the Tate Modern

LOLA Event Staff were dressed in some wild Tron-inspired outfits with Felix B, one of the duo who form Basement Jaxx pounding in their ears at the Tate Modern for the Tron Legacy after party.

Disney’s Tron: Legacy was always going to impress, and the production design and original soundtrack from Daft Punk did not disappoint. The LOLA staff really gave the huge crowd something to talk about as they looked glamorous and turned heads as usual. Our promotional models were dressed as characters from the movie and surrounded by multiple lasers which filled the gigantic space while the heavy bass of Basement Jaxx created a great party.

The room had Flynn’s Arcade set up where you could play the new Tron: Evolution on Xbox or go and have eye-lashes done like a Siren! And of course our promotional staff were on hand to assist guests with everything they needed.

The Elton John AIDS Charity Ball 2010

The Elton John AIDS Foundation Winter Ball raised almost £590,000 for the Elton John AIDS Foundation last Saturday night and LOLA was there to help!

The LOLA Event Staffing and Promotional Staffing teams were very excited to be involved for the third year in a row with the The Elton John AIDS Foundation Winter Ball.

With Lily Allen sidelined and unable to perform, the man of the hour – Sir Elton himself stepped up to give a 45-minute set as part of the evening which involved a cocktail reception, dinner and auction in benefit of the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Guests were treated to some of his hits and a couple of new tracks from his latest album “The Union” with Leon Russell which has debuted at Number 3 on the Billboard Album Chart.

For the past 3 years our team of wonderful hosts and hostesses, event staff and promotional staff have wined and dined some of the world’s biggest celeb names on what they all regard as the best event of the year. Beginning with a manic make up and costume session and ending with very excited event staff and guests getting a special show from Sir Elton. The event was another roaring success this year for a very worthy cause.

LOLA sent a team of our hospitality staff to the Marquee on the Chelsea Hospital Lawn last night for the Goldwell Hair Colour Awards.

The evening kicked off with canapes and drinks on the lawn. There was no shortage of colour in the hair so I'm sure Mr. or Mrs Goldwell (whoever it is) would have been suitably impressed with the variety on show.

Following drinks on the lawn was a raunchy fashion show which lived up to the 'Naked' theme they had running for the night.

A lovely bunch of lads and lasses with 6 packs and long legs respectively kept everyone happy regardless of what tickles your fancy!

“A friend of mine who works at one of the world’s (ex) leading investment banks gave me an interesting piece of advice some time ago - ‘Don’t over-analyse. The best understanding you can have is that of an average punter.’

I had been trying my best to get my head around the intricacies of the stock market (and in my case, China’s demand for natural resources). By that stage I’d read every Financial Review expert opinion over the last 6 months and I must say I was baffled that in many cases they were in direct contradiction to the opinions they’d shared six months prior.

For instance, it wasn’t so long ago that we were reading about China’s forecast double digit growth on a daily basis. The ‘experts’ predicted this would continue for as long as any of us could imagine. We should all jump on the commodities band wagon as China’s demand for the likes of iron ore was expected to expand exponentially until the cows came home.

Before we knew it, the bubble burst and the growth slowed; dramatically.

Having thought about it for some time, the only logical explanation I could find for the sudden seizure in demand was, in one word - sentiment.

I have concluded that market sentiment, driven by the average punter is the most powerful force regulating demand and supply throughout the world. Hence, I have rationalized to stop over analyzing and think more like the average punter. This is a mindset that comes easily, being an average punter.

So I have applied this to my industry. The Events and Promotional world has suffered greatly during this global financial crisis. Companies have stopped launching new products, in fact they have stopped making new products. Parties (and in particular Christmas parties) are a thing of the past and corporate networking nights seem to be as rare as hen’s teeth.

Special event catering companies are going into administration at an extraordinary rate and of course (as we all know) the semi-nationalised banks in the UK are not making life any easier for start-ups and small businesses.

So in an effort to counter the doom and gloom I’d like to start the ball rolling with some much needed positive sentiment:

My company is a young business of 18 months. Although 2008 was a tough year, we survived and we did quite well.

We took on a few fantastic big name clients, and many helpful smaller clients. We were profitable and although we missed our targets by a small margin we were buoyed by the strong reaction to our brand and the relative success of our online strategies. So as an average punter, I’m thinking ‘things don’t look that bad.’

Having read all the expert opinions we expected the worst for January 2009. However, for us, they were wrong. LOLA Event and Promotional Staffing turned over more than 90% more business in January 2009 than January 2008. We have grown our client list significantly (even in the last six weeks) and we have just expanded our business into Manchester in response to a strong demand from the north of the UK.

I believe that soon companies will again start launching new products, booking event staff for parties and networking like they used to. And as a result, I believe my business will continue to grow at a steady rate and I will continue to send out event staff as quickly as I can get them through the door.

My business is in providing attractive, skilled and well presented people for events, whether they be hospitality staff or hosts and hostesses. I intend to make 2009 a great year for event staffing and I urge all of my peers to take a similar attitude towards their businesses.

A wave of positive sentiment from average punters is sure to eclipse the Armageddon forecast by the ‘experts’ that monopolise our televison sets.”
